If you’ve been using your time social distancing to work on your photography skills, then now you have a few more ways to do it.
Last weekend we told you about some free online photography classes being offered by Nikon, and this week we found some offerings from Olympus and Leica as well.
Olympus is offering new “Home With Olympus Sessions.” Unlike some other web-based classes that are available to everyone, it’s offering group sessions that are just six people, hopefully giving participants a chance to ask questions and get answers. Here’s what it’s offering:
•Getting to Know Your E-M1X: Ask questions and learn about your E-M1X, including the menu and special features of your camera – like Handheld High Res Shot Mode, Intelligent Subject Detection AF, Live ND Mode, and more.
•Getting to Know Your E-M1 Mark III: Ask questions and learn about your E-M1 Mark III, including the menu and special features of your camera – like Live ND Mode, Pro Capture, Live Composite, and more.
•Getting to Know Your E-M5 Mark III: Ask questions and learn about your E-M5 Mark III, including the menu and special features of your camera – like Pro Capture, High Res Shot Mode, Live Composite, and more.
•Getting to Know Your E-M10 Mark II III: Ask questions and learn about your E-M10 series camera, including the menu and special features of your camera – like Easy Shooting Modes, 4K Video, and more.
•Macro Photography: We’ll help you think big when you’re shooting small. Ask questions and discuss all things macro, including Olympus features to help you score the perfect shot and gear recommendations – including the M.Zuiko 60mm F2.8 and 30mm F3.5 macro lenses.
•Landscape Photography: Get ready to capture the landscapes you’ve always dreamed of! Ask questions, and discuss settings and lens recommendations, and learn about High Res Shot Mode, Live ND Mode for capturing moving water and clouds, and more.
•Portrait Photography: Learn how to take stunning portraits – whether you’re indoors or outside. Ask questions and discuss portrait photography, including M.Zuiko lens recommendations, using flashes, Pro Capture Mode, tethered shooting, and more.
•Bird Photography: Get more keepers as you’re capturing fast moving birds! Ask questions and discuss all things related to birding, including ideal settings, focusing, Pro Capture Mode, lens and binocular recommendations, dot sights, and more.
•Basics of Photography: Ask questions and explore the basics of photography, from understanding aperture, ISO, and shutter speed, to white balance, exposure, auto modes, and more.
•Live Composite Photography: Ask questions and discuss all things Live Composite, including star trails, light trails, and use in portraiture.
•Underwater Photography: Get ready to see a new world underwater! Ask questions about what gear is best for your underwater photography, best camera settings, and how to use lighting underwater.
•Video with Olympus OM-D: Ask questions and discuss how to best capture video using the OM-D system, and get answers to questions about OM-Log, shutter speed, in-body image stabilization, audio synching, and more.
To participate, you have to apply on the site. The “application” involves providing your name, email and phone number and then sharing what type of camera equipment you’re using. All that to say it’s more a signup sheet than an actual application. There isn’t a selection process. While there are seats available right now, those seats are also limited. If you want to participate it’s beeter to sign up now rather than later.
Leica is holding a slightly different #StayHomeWithLeica series which includes a number of “complimentary online programs produced by the Leica Akademie, Instagram Live interviews with renowned photographers, virtual meet-ups hosted by our Leica stores, and weekly Instagram photo challenges designed to nurture your passion for photography.”
The events happen every few days and have a little something for everyone. You can check out the full rundown of options on Leica’s site here.
